I had a mentor who used to say “Nothing is more exciting than reaching out and touching someone’s life in a positive, uplifting way.” I learned from her that helping others in turn helps you learn and reach up and expand your own life also. It is truly a great opportunity and an incredibly fulfilling path to help others create, understand and then reach their dreams and goals.
There are so many characteristics that make up a successful person in any area of life, but there is also one special element that each of us must have if we want to succeed at anything we undertake … that element is an unwavering commitment to our own purpose!
You know that some people see the difficulty in every opportunity they encounter; I bet you know a few of them. I know I do. What I see is that the greatest power any one of us holds is the power of choice, the power to choose where we want to go in life and what we want to do. I believe that commitment is also a choice, and it is that special choice we each must make to work toward our goals and dreams every day. Each of us must schedule the appropriate time on our calendar to take the action steps that will move us forward. We are the only ones responsible for our actions and only by taking those actions can we be in a position to help someone else begin their steps to success.
Are you sitting there thinking you’re too old or to young, you don’t have the “right” education, you don’t have enough experience in a particular arena or any of those “I can’t, I don’t” kind of phrases? Take a deep breath and get over it!!! I did a little research and found that William Pitt was Prime Minister of Great Britain when he was 24, Gladstone when he was 80! Newton discovered the law of gravity when he was 23, but P.T. Barnum wasn’t successful in the circus world until he was 50! Joan of Arc at age 16 had liberated all of France, but Grandma Moses didn’t begin to paint until she was 75! Each of these people was successful in their own way and in their own time! And when you really get discouraged just remember that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb after 10,000 tries! The only one who can hold you back is you!
Isn’t it time to invest in yourself? Sit back and close your eyes, bring up the picture in your mind of your success, imagine that it is easy to keep your eyes on your purpose. Take a bit of time to make a plan just for this week, then for next week ~ one week at a time and soon you’ve finished the month and by following your plan you have made progress toward your success picture! Look above and beyond all the little details and distractions that might hinder your progress. There really is no failure. There is simply an opportunity to try again more wisely ~ that is called experience!
Fill each day with action steps, congratulate yourself along the way. Push out all the doubtful thoughts.
Make your dreams come true! And don’t forget to reach out to help another along the way!
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” ~ Aristotle
